imccyu a6a3807a07 feat(gui): step1 skeleton — dsc web serves built web UI over booted harness host
Five new modules: apps/dsc (bin: parseArgs + node:http static server +
signal shutdown), packages/host/apiproxy (programmatic harness core
composition, agents:[]), packages/client/web-runtime (React-free browser
runtime), packages/client/web-ui (React mount), apps/web (vite build
entry producing dist consumed by apps/dsc via package exports).

Root wiring: apps/* workspace glob, dsh-* paths for host/client groups,
demo:web script, apps/web/dist gitignore. No protocol/API routes yet —
contract lands in step2 (see missions/tasks/20260719-1902-apiproxy-api-design).

Includes the design + implementation archives (spec v2.1, deepseekchat
baseline and harness boot research, implementation run log).

Acceptance: 12/12 passed incl. real-key llm.stream smoke (51 chunks).

feat(gui): apiproxy — four-quadrant RPC contract + fetch carriers, live end to end

Contract layer (src/api/, 14 files): four named wire message types
(ClientRequest / ServerResponse / ServerRequest / ClientResponse) as a
discriminated union over strict bidirectional rpcId (initiator mints,
responder echoes; channel and message fully decoupled — HTTP is the
client->server pipe, SSE the reverse); narrow RpcRequest<P>/
RpcResponse<T> signature forms; RpcMethodMap with RequestPayload<K>/
ResponseValue<K> derivation; typed RpcError details map; approval/
question responses modeled as ClientResponse via a single /api/respond
endpoint (RpcReceipt carrier ack); zod schemas anchored per Wire<T>
against exactOptionalPropertyTypes.

impl/api-proxy.ts: describe/list/create, both SSE streams (frame queue
pump, subscribed baseline, lifecycle frames, signal cleanup); history
pages on message boundaries (tail-back scan, partial included in the
tail page); prompt dispatches queue->agent.send / steer->agent.steer
with rpcId carried through MessageSource; cancel for attached sessions;
cold-session resume deduped via a per-id promise map; host-level
provider/model defaults injected at create/resume.

fetch/: mechanical UNARY_ROUTES table, two-level parse with
path==method check, SSE frames completed to ServerRequest full form;
client mints -> narrows -> envelopes outbound, verifies rpcId echo
inbound, streams SSE frames, four-quadrant onEnvelope tap (debug panel
choke point). Real-browser fixes: URL base resolves to location.origin
(hardcoded internal base broke real pages), browser-safe export paths.

Design archives: contract design.md v2.0 with decision log,
core-coverage audit, comparative studies, step2 impl run log. Probed
end to end over real HTTP: prompt -> live model stream -> history
returns the finished reply.

feat(gui): RpcLog debug panel — fixture-driven milestone, playwright-verified 10/10

web-runtime: rpcLog + ui slices (zustand), four-quadrant RpcLogEntry
(client-request / server-response / server-request / client-response),
onEnvelope tap -> microtask-batched pump with 500-entry ring buffer,
ConnectionController (private state, backoff reconnect), fixture API
with fake envelopes (?fixture switch), bootWebRuntime; contract types
via temporary local copies (api-types.ts, swapped for real imports when
W3 client lands).

web-ui: components/panels/RpcLog five-piece set (badge with unread
count, floating panel, direction glyphs per quadrant, same-rpcId
pair highlighting in two families, JSON payload expand, follow/pause,
clear), App shell, utils/formatRelative, light-theme CSS variables with
dark placeholders.

dsc bin: mime lookup fixed to use the actually-served file (naked
'/?query' no longer falls through to octet-stream download); shutdown
closes SSE keep-alive connections so SIGTERM actually exits.

Acceptance: scripts/verify-rpclog-panel.mjs (chromium headless) ALL
PASS 10/10 over design.md §D 1-6.

pkg: add web scripts for building

feat(gui): session milestone — list + conversation over Session OOP, styled RpcLog v2.1

web-runtime: Session/SessionManager object layer (resident instances,
mux frame routing, lineage flattening), foldSurface adapter with padding
sentinels for paged windows, chunk accumulator for streaming partials,
batched change notification (useSyncExternalStore contract), connection
sinks + reconnect fix (the 300ms self-abort reconnect storm that made
the session list flap is gone), fixture rewritten as a scripted host
(60-turn history, typewriter replay, resident pending approval, child
session); temporary contract copies deleted in favor of real apiproxy
imports.

web-ui: sessions screen (list with lineage indent + selection as
container-local state), conversation view (turn grouping, reasoning
fold, tool cards, steering, pending interaction cards, upward paging
with scroll anchoring), input bar with queue/steer/stop; RpcLog panel
restyled per docs/web-styling.md (tokenized palette, quadrant badge
glyphs now vertical ↑↓⇟⇞, pair highlighting, floating shadow).

docs/web-styling.md: living style guide (tokens, visual baseline,
coding rules, evolution log).

Acceptance: verify-session.mjs 31/31, verify-session-real.mjs 5/5
(real model streaming), verify-rpclog-panel.mjs 10/10.

feat(gui): hostruntime split + repo-wide package prefix rename

Package split (design: 20260720-0101-hostruntime-split-design):
dsh-host-runtime carries bootHost + createApiProxy + startHost()
(RunningHost {api, handler, defaults, ctx, dispose} — the seam Electron
and any future shell reuses; ctx is the official front-door mount
point); dsh-host-webserver carries the node:http static+API bridge
(fixed: abort now keys on res 'close' + writableEnded — req 'close'
fires on body end since Node 16 and was killing every SSE stream
instantly, the reconnect-storm root cause); apps/dsc is now a thin
assembly with web/-p subcommands. dsc -p runs the full isomorphic
carrier chain in process (second real protocol consumer; probed
end-to-end against the live model).

Naming rule (user decree): packages under host/ and client/ carry the
directory prefix in their npm name — dsh-host-apiproxy,
dsh-client-web-runtime, dsh-client-web-ui renamed repo-wide in one
frozen batch; explicit tsconfig paths entries added where the wildcard
no longer matches.

Acceptance: verify-session 31/31, verify-rpclog-panel 10/10,
verify-session-real 7/7 (incl. new 12s connection-stability sentinels),
tsc green, dsc web + dsc -p smoke both pass.

refactor(gui): AbstractApiClient class hierarchy — OO client with inheritable seams

AbstractApiClient (apiproxy) carries every protocol invariant: rpcId
minting, four-quadrant envelope wrap/unwrap, zod parsing, SSE frame
parsing, the payload-direct IApiClient surface (callers no longer mint
rpcIds — the carrier does), and the instance-level envelope observation
pump (batched via microtask; moved off module-level globals in
rpc-log.ts, which is now a pure subscriber mapping envelopes into store
entries — the debug panel observes the connection, it is not part of
it).

Platform subclasses own two abstract seams (doFetch, onEnvelope) plus
three protocol-level virtuals for transportless overrides:
InProcessApiClient (apiproxy; dsc -p uses new InProcessApiClient(
host.handler)), WebApiClient (web-runtime), FixtureApiClient (fixture
now subclasses instead of wrapping). Naming per decree: AbstractApiClient
/ IApiClient; ApiProxy stays the impl-side narrow-form contract.

headless.ts call sites drop rpcRequest wrappers (payload-direct);
split-design archive updated with the naming-rule ledger.

tsc green; verify-session 31/31, verify-rpclog-panel 10/10,
verify-session-real 7/7 (12s connection sentinel count=4); dsc -p smoke
CALLER-OK.

feat(gui): InputBar final form — bug batch, deepseekchat layout, single primary button, running locks input

Squashes the whole InputBar iteration batch: IME/caret/auto-grow/focus/dedup
bug fixes, layout aligned to the deepseekchat baseline, single primary button
with hover flyout, finalized button semantics with the Codex-style icon
circle, and running-state locking where stop is the only mid-turn action.
The same batch carried the Chinese-to-English code comment sweep
(density pruned), folded in here.

docs(gui): purge work-log references from code comments

76 design-doc references cleared across the GUI packages: section
pointers inlined as self-contained constraint statements, pure pointer
comments dropped, milestone codenames and ruling tags out, and the 14
contract file headers switched to the formal RFC (the only sanctioned
external reference). web-styling.md now cites the styling RFC instead
of the disposable research archive. grep for work-log reference
variants is clean across the GUI packages.

docs(gui): file-header comments self-contained — drop RFC filename references

RFC renames/reorgs must not require a source sweep (the 2026-07-20
two-way merge proved it). 11 headers lose only the '(RFC …)' tail and
stay self-contained; api-proxy.ts keeps its minimal-first note.

fix(gui): session streaming — freeze interrupted partials, sweep stale running calls, send force-scrolls

Aborted turns never emit the finalizing assistant/message, so the
accumulated partial and its running tool cards kept rendering below
later messages — the "new message lands above the stopped reply"
illusion. turn/end side effects now freeze content-bearing partials
into interrupted terminal nodes (fractional seq keeps flow order; the
live freeze and history replay converge through applyEventSideEffects,
so a refresh reconstructs identical frozen nodes) and turn running tool
cards into interrupted terminal cards; only content-free partials are
swept outright. ConversationView gains the send-force-scroll rule (own
words must be visible) alongside the pre-update atBottom follow flag.
Regressions pinned as E2-4a–c (real host) and §E1-11h (fixture).

feat(gui): webserver hardening verify script

feat(gui): dark-mode toggle pinned to the sidebar bottom

Interim home before the Settings page exists (the button re-homes with
zero logic change — mechanics live in utils/theme.ts): html[data-theme]
flip + dsc.theme localStorage, stored choice wins over the OS
prefers-color-scheme default, applied in mount() before first paint so
a dark reload never flashes light. Moon/sun inline SVG icon button at
the sidebar's pinned bottom row. Pure front-end local concern: no RPC,
no Session/store involvement. Dark sweep of list/conversation/input
card/RPC panel found no unreadable pairs — no token changes needed.

docs(gui): GUI RFCs and web styling handbook

Layering+RPC protocol and web client architecture RFCs (post-reorg,
developer-facing polish folded in) plus the styling engineering
handbook. Mission work logs live in the commit above; PRs can be cut
from this commit to include formal docs only.

The six GUI acceptance/probe scripts (carrier-errors, rpclog-panel,
session, session-real, webserver-backpressure, webserver-hardening)
leave the repo's scripts/ tree; the three code comments that pointed at
them now describe the coverage lane without naming a script path.

fix(webserver): guard the request callback — one malformed request must not kill the process

The async handle() had no top-level catch, so any throw inside it (a bad
%-escape reaching decodeURIComponent, a client dropping mid-body, a
response stream erroring) became an unhandled rejection and took the whole
process down (audit R1 must-fix). The guard answers 400 when headers are
not out yet, destroys the socket when they are, and reports the failure to
onError (the package never prints). Spec covers all three legs: %-escape
barrage → 400 + server stays alive, non-Error throw wrapped for onError,
mid-stream explosion → socket teardown.

dsh-tools

Tool registry and execution pipeline. Tool plugins register their schemas and executors; the agent loop executes each call through tools/pre-execute (the extensible allow/deny gate) → monotonic registered guards → tools/execute (an around-dispatch wrapper for timeout/retry/metrics plugins) → tools/post-execute (inspect/replace the result, attach context) → the observe-only tools/result notification. The registry also owns HOW its tools are presented to the model — its mode config selects native function calling, Code Mode, or both.

Service: ToolRegistry (ctx key: tools)

Config

tools:

native contributes visible tools as function definitions. code contributes the reserved run_code transport and generated tools:sdk section; both contributes both forms. The reserved transport cannot be registered, shadowed, restricted, or removed. Non-native modes require a TypeScript ctx.codeRuntime, and a systemPrompt.toolOrder entry for a tool the mode does not contribute rejects prompt assembly. A system-prompt/assemble listener may replace the registry's contributions; its returned assembly is authoritative, so that listener owns preserving a usable Code Mode protocol.

Public API

  • ctx.tools.register(definition: ToolDefinition): () => void Register a trusted typed same-process definition. The layer is the calling context's scope: a plain plugin context registers globally; an agent's agent.ctx registers for that agent alone, shadowing a same-named global tool there. Duplicate names within one layer throw; non-native modes also reject the reserved run_code transport name. timeoutMs, when present, must be positive and finite. Disposed with the calling fiber.
  • ctx.tools.restrict(filter) applies an agent-scoped allow/deny mask to global tools and throws from a plain context. The filter is snapshotted at registration; multiple masks intersect and scope-local tools merge afterwards. Deny masks admit later unnamed globals, while allow masks exclude later names. Unknown, local, or reserved names and empty filters reject. This is live visibility composition, not an authority boundary; see the scope security non-goal.
  • ctx.tools.get(name: string, scope?: ScopeKey): ToolDefinition | undefined Resolution as one scope sees it (shadowing applied; a restricted-away global reads as absent) — presenters pass the calling agent so the card matches what executed.
  • ctx.tools.schemas(scope?: ScopeKey): ToolSchema[] Schemas of everything the scope can see (without the execute functions). The shipped tools' schemas are catalogued in docs/tool-catalog.md, generated by booting each tool plugin and harvesting this method (see the tool-schema-catalog Agent Note).
  • ctx.tools.guard(guard: ToolGuard): () => void Register a monotonic synchronous execution guard after tools/pre-execute: returning a reason denies the call, while undefined leaves it unchanged. A plain-context guard applies globally; an agent.ctx guard applies only to that agent. Later waterfall listeners cannot turn a guard denial back into permission. Disposed with the calling fiber.
  • ctx.tools.execute(exec) losslessly snapshots and freezes arguments, assigns an opaque token, runs the complete policy/dispatch/result pipeline, then independently snapshots the authoritative outcome before final observation. Invalid arguments use the same result path without reaching policy or the body. Around wrappers may replace only signal; the registry re-fuses the original caller signal immediately before the body.
  • ctx.tools.executionMode(exec) returns parallel only when the visible definition's isConcurrencySafe(exec.arguments) classifier returns exactly true; unknown, hidden, undeclared, invalid, or throwing classifications are exclusive.

Injected services

SystemPrompt — the registry automatically feeds its tool schemas into the system-prompt assembly via ctx.systemPrompt.tools(). The approval seam is consumed opportunistically instead (ctx.get('approval'), no static inject): a deployment without it keeps the ask→deny degrade, and the registry stays active either way.

Cancellation

Cancellation is cooperative and quiescent. Every typed invocation supplies a caller-owned AbortSignal; tool bodies receive it as required readonly exec.signal, while only tools/execute wrappers may temporarily replace the required signal. The registry preserves caller cancellation through replacement and never races away from a started same-process promise. Cancellation before body invocation is ABORTED_BEFORE_DISPATCH; cancellation after invocation can replace only a successful outcome with ABORTED. A denial, wrapper failure, tool failure, post-policy failure, or timeout-owned TOOL_TIMEOUT remains more specific. A pre-aborted entry materializes and freezes arguments, then skips every policy and dispatch phase and publishes one result. Every async tool must observe or forward the signal and settle only after owned work stops. The tool-cancellation Agent Note owns the full contract and hard-termination limit.

Live events

The live registry pipeline has three transformable waterfalls followed by the observe-only tools/result boundary; registry changes are deliberately unfiltered shared-state notifications. Exact signatures, dispatch modes, scope filtering, and failure-containment contracts live in the generated Cordis event catalog, while the complete ordering is visualized in the generated tool execution pipeline. tools/result is live; the similarly named tool/result is the durable session event the agent loop appends afterwards.

Key types

  • ToolDefinitionToolSchema + execute(args, exec), whose async work must cooperatively stop through exec.signal, plus optional presentation callbacks, cooperative timeoutMs, and optional per-call isConcurrencySafe(args) classification.
  • ToolExecutionInput — the caller-supplied call description: { callId, name, arguments, signal, agent?, parent? }; signal is required and readonly, callers may pass an enclosing execution's opaque token as parent, and callers never choose the new execution's own token.
  • ToolExecutionToken — a fresh branded Symbol assigned by the registry. It supports equality correlation only and never crosses a model, log, or worker boundary.
  • ToolExecution — the readonly pipeline view: immutable { token, callId, name, arguments, signal, agent?, parent? }; the registry separately retains and re-fuses the original caller signal. ToolDispatchExecution is the tools/execute-only view whose required signal is mutable, so a wrapper may replace and restore it but cannot delete it. A nested call's parent is a ToolExecutionToken, not an execution object.
  • ToolRunContext — the execution passed to a tool body, extending ToolExecution with deferContext(context). Composite tools use it to ferry context produced by nested dispatches to the outer result even when the tool later throws or cancellation wins; it never injects immediately.
  • ToolExecutionResult — losslessly JSON-serializable outcome: { content, isError, error?, additionalContexts?, meta? }. Call identity stays on the immutable ToolExecution supplied alongside the result instead of being duplicated on the outcome. The registry materializes and freezes the complete post-policy value before final observation. On failure with a HarnessError, error: { name, code } carries the structured failure class alongside the model-facing text. additionalContexts preserves each deferred or post-execute HookContext with its own source and durable JSON metadata; the loop buffers the array and appends each entry as a context/message after all tool/results in the step.
  • PreToolDecision{kind:'allow'} | {kind:'deny', reason} | {kind:'ask', reason?}. Input rewrite is deliberately not offered; ask is serviced by ctx.approval when mounted and otherwise degrades to deny.
  • PostToolDecision{kind:'accept', content?, additionalContexts?} (keep the call successful, optionally replacing the model-facing content) | {kind:'block', feedback, additionalContexts?} (turn it into an isError whose content is the corrective feedback). Accept preserves tool-deferred contexts before decision contexts; block discards tool-deferred contexts and exposes only contexts explicitly supplied by the blocking decision.
  • ToolGuard(execution) => string | undefined; the returned string is a final monotonic denial reason evaluated after the reorderable pre-execute waterfall and before dispatch.
  • ToolCallView / ToolResultView — provider-neutral card-tagged render intents a tool returns from presentCall / presentResult to own how a UI renders ITS calls (see "Tool-owned UI presentation").

Extension points

  • Tool plugins call ctx.tools.register() — schemas flow into the assembly automatically.
  • tools/pre-execute is the reorderable allow/deny/ask gate; ctx.tools.guard() adds monotonic owner policy after it.
  • tools/execute wraps normalized core dispatch for timeout, retry, or metrics. Wrappers may replace only the operational signal.
  • tools/post-execute may replace content, block with feedback, or attach ordered contexts; tools/result observes the immutable final outcome.
  • Exact signatures and ordering live in the generated event catalog and pipeline.
  • MCP servers: one plugin per server, discover tools, call ctx.tools.register() with the server's schemas.

First-party plugin authors can use the defineTool() helper (exported from this package) for typed tool parameter schemas:

The helper converts the author-facing SchemaSpec (with required: true as a per-property boolean) to standard JSON Schema for the wire format and uses the same typed spec for execute/presentation validation. Raw JSON-Schema tool definitions (from MCP servers) are still accepted by the registry directly.

A defineTool definition validates model arguments before execution and turns missing required values, wrong primitives, invalid enum members, and nested violations into ToolArgsError (INVALID_ARGS) for the normal error-result path. Extra keys are allowed, defaults are not applied, and object or array fields without properties or items receive only a type check. Raw-registered tools own their validation.

Optional timeoutMs must be positive and finite; it is policy metadata, not model-visible schema.

Optional isConcurrencySafe(args) receives typed, softly validated arguments. Exact true permits concurrent dispatch/body execution; invalid input and all other outcomes remain exclusive. Opted-in bodies do not mutate parent-owned state, and shared-state races must commute or fail closed. The parallel tool-call Agent Note owns the full safety contract.

Structured-output schema subset

StructuredOutputSchema is the object-rooted raw JSON Schema subset used by subagents and workflows for machine-readable results. It accepts one scalar type, object properties/required/boolean additionalProperties, array items, and scalar enum/const. The annotations description, title, default, and examples are ignored but must remain JSON data. Type arrays, undeclared required keys, and unsupported keywords fail through OutputSchemaError rather than being ignored; validateStructuredValue() returns path-qualified violations without throwing.

Tool-owned UI presentation

Tools optionally own pure presentCall() and presentResult() render intents, so UIs do not special-case tool names:

  • Call views are { card: 'generic', title, kind?, rawInput?, content?, locations? }, { card: 'terminal', title, description?, cwd? }, or { card: 'diff', title, diffs, locations? }.
  • Result views are { card: 'generic', title?, content? }, { card: 'terminal', title?, output?, exitCode?, signal? }, or { card: 'diff', title?, diffs }.

Returning undefined selects generic fallback. Presenters depend only on their arguments because UIs call them during live streaming and log replay. Result presentation may read JSON-serializable result.meta, which persists with the result; defineTool soft-validates older logged arguments and falls back instead of crashing replay. dsh-tool-bash and dsh-tool-fs are the reference implementations; the render-intent Agent Note owns the rationale.

Code Mode

Under code or both, the registry exposes the reserved run_code transport and a deterministic TypeScript SDK for the current scope; only program output re-enters model context. Each JSON-normalized binding re-enters the complete tool pipeline sequentially with logged correlation to the outer call. Denials reject that binding, ordinary side effects are not rolled back, and sub-call additionalContexts are deferred through the parent result to preserve call/result adjacency. Run settlement aborts and drains outstanding bindings; failures surface as CodeRunFailedError. See the Code Mode Agent Note and code-runtime seam. Try pnpm run demo:code-mode.

  • The SDK section (tools:sdk, order 150): a lazy prompt section regenerating, at each assembly, a declare const tools: {...} TypeScript declaration of the calling scope's visible end capabilities (exotic names via quoted keys), plus fixed usage instructions. Deterministic — lexicographic tool order, byte-identical text for an unchanged tool set (prefix-cache-friendly). The codegen (jsonSchemaToTs, exported) is total: constructs outside the defineTool subset degrade to unknown, never throw.
  • The dispatch bridge (run_code's execute): every binding call is JSON-normalized before dispatch (a value that does not survive — BigInt, circulars — rejects that one call, so the dispatched form and logged form are the same JSON value by construction), serialized through a per-run queue (even Promise.all executes underlying calls one at a time in submission order), given the outer execution's opaque token as parent, and run through the complete pre-execute → guards → execute → post-execute → result pipeline. A denial reaches the program as a binding rejection, and each sub-call is logged as a tool/code-dispatch session event with deterministic id <parent>:code:<n>; deriveMessages() does not surface that event. Token correlation lets commit-style observers defer an inner success until the final run_code result without exposing the live outer execution; ordinary tool side effects are not rolled back. Every sub-call additionalContexts entry is deferred through the outer ToolRunContext in dispatch order; the loop appends those contexts only after the parent run_code result, preserving adjacency and retaining each source/meta even when the program later fails.
  • Settlement discipline: the bridge owns a run-scoped abort that follows the outer signal in and fires when the run settles for any reason, so a budget expiry aborts an in-flight sub-tool instead of orphaning it; the bridge then drains its queue BEFORE returning, so every tool/code-dispatch lands inside the open turn. A failed run throws CodeRunFailedError (code: 'CODE_RUN_FAILED', message = the failure kind + captured logs), which the pipeline converts to a structured isError the model self-corrects from.

Parallel execution

The agent loop groups consecutive parallel calls into a bounded rolling pool and treats each exclusive call as an ordering barrier. Only dispatch/body overlaps; policy, durable results, and context retain model order. Code Mode bindings remain serial. The parallel tool-call Agent Note owns the shipped declarations and rationale.

What the model sees

In normal mode the model sees each visible definition's exact name, description, and JSON schema; the shipped definitions are recorded in the generated tool package map and schema sections. Agent-scoped restrictions, shadows, and extension registrations change that agent's end-tool set.

Token effect

Fixed per-request cost proportional to the visible definitions. Restrictions that hide tools remove their entire schema cost for that agent.

KV Cache effect

Prefix-stable while visible definitions and their order are unchanged. Registration, disposal, or scoped restriction may invalidate reuse from the first changed schema token.

Code Mode schema and system prompt

What the model sees

Code Mode exposes the generated run_code schema, the SDK instructions below, and the generated exact declare const tools block. both exposes normal schemas and this Code Mode surface.

## Writing code for run_code

Pass `run_code` the body of an async TypeScript function (erasable syntax only — no `enum` or namespaces; type annotations are advisory, the code runs type-stripped). Inside the program:

- Call tools as `await tools.name(args)` — quoted access for exotic names: `tools["my-tool"](args)`. Every call resolves to the tool's text output as a string. Tool arguments must be JSON-serializable.
- A FAILED tool call rejects with an `Error` carrying the tool's error text — `try/catch` it to handle and continue.
- Calls execute sequentially, even under `Promise.all`.
- Emit results with `return` and/or `console.log(...)`. ONLY what you print or return comes back to you — intermediate tool results never enter the conversation, so extract just what you need.

Token effect

Fixed per-request cost proportional to the visible definitions. Code Mode trades end-tool schemas for generated SDK text plus one transport schema rather than promising a universal reduction.

KV Cache effect

Prefix-stable while the Code Mode selection, generated SDK, transport schema, and visible tool set are unchanged. Mode or filter changes may invalidate reuse from the first changed prompt or schema token.

Tool-call history and results

What the model sees

The loop retains model-emitted arguments and the registry's final content. Any thrown or denied call becomes exactly Error: <message>. Code Mode returns only the outer program's printed lines and rendered return value, (run_code completed with no output) when both are empty, or Error: code run failed (<kind>): <message> followed conditionally by Captured output: and the captured lines. Inner dispatch events stay log-only; post-execute listeners may append source-attributed context after the result.

Token effect

Arguments, results, and additional context are data-dependent and resent until compaction. Restrictions that hide tools also remove their schemas before the model can call them.

KV Cache effect

Append-only; newly visible content follows the reusable request prefix and does not invalidate existing KV-cache entries.

Known Limitations and Deferred Work

  • Concurrency policy is not an event seamexecutionMode() reads the resolved tool definition directly; plugins can only declare a classifier on definitions they own.
  • tools/pre-execute deliberately cannot rewrite exec.arguments — logged and rendered args would desync from what ran; the rewrite design is a proposed Agent Note.
  • defineTool's schema DSL is a deliberate subset — string/number/boolean/object/array with string-only enum; validateArgs tolerates extra keys and preserves default as a model-visible JSON Schema annotation without applying it during validation; dynamic Cordis mounts may supply defaults even though first-party definitions do not, while raw-registered JSON-Schema tools validate their own input.
  • timeoutMs on a definition is declarative only — the registry never enforces deadlines; enforcement requires the @deepseek-ai/dsh-timeout-policy wrapper.
  • Code Mode is TypeScript-only and the presentation mode is service-widemode: code/both rejects prompt assembly unless ctx.codeRuntime.language === 'typescript'; scoped restrictions/shadows still choose each agent's visible bindings, but one tool cannot be native-only while another is code-only.
  • Code Mode bindings return text only — non-text content blocks in a sub-call result collapse to [<type> content] placeholders.
  • run_code state is fresh per run — a persistent REPL-style kernel is rejected for the MVP (cross-call state would be invisible to the log); see the Code Mode Agent Note.
